Atelier 21 is a progressive school which is creating a stir in the educational landscape for its trailblazing approach to education which focusses on teaching children ‘how to think, not what to think’ and develop the skills they need that are fit for our futures not our pasts. Its aim is to make to make learning more ‘relevant, meaningful and joyful.’
The children have a democratic say in the running of the school (for example, they get to vote on the rules, how the school budget will be spent and what food will go on the school menu) and this shows in the special culture which nurtures mutual respect between adults and young people, hence no school uniform and pupils call the teachers by their first names.
